In today's article, we will see how to create a custom list web part in a classic experience site in SharePoint.
First, from our active subscription, we log into M365 and navigate to SharePoint on a page that is of the classic experience type.
From the gear icon at the top right, select "site contents" and then on the transition page, select "add an app."
On the next page, navigate to the available web parts.
Select the "Custom List" web part.
Next, we need to give a name to our new list and select "create."
As you can see, our new Custom List has been created.
If we select the list, we will go to the page where I have the ability to create new items. However, from this specific view, I cannot easily add a new column as in the new experience of SharePoint. To create custom columns, I need to select "List Settings" from the ribbon.
Now, I am on the familiar settings page of the list where I can create new columns.
I select "Create Column" and from there, I go back to the familiar page where I need to set a new name for my list, as well as the data type, and of course, if I want it to have a default value or if it is a required field or contains some calculated value.
In the next step, I return to the list, and from there, I can now create any item I want. It should be noted here that the classic experience still has a feature that we do not have in the new experience. If I select "edit this list," it then converts the list into a table where I can copy-paste rows from an Excel sheet to bulk import items into the list. However, if the list contains a specific data type in a column and I do not enter the correct data type there, an error will occur, and I will not be able to perform this type of import.
