Change the look and page layout and webparts in SharePoint

11 November 2024

In today's article, we will see how to change the look in a site in a classic experience site in SharePoint.

First, from our active subscription, we log into M365 and navigate to SharePoint on a page that is of the classic experience type.

In the next step, we need to select the gear icon at the top right and then choose "change the look."

On the transition page, we now have the ability to see the available templates and how they approximately appear when applied. So, we select one of the available templates.

In the next step, the specific look appears along with some details about it, such as fonts, layout, and colors. We should also note that in some looks, we have the option to choose backgrounds for our new look. If we select "try out," we continue.

On the next screen, we have a full depiction of the application of the new look, and if we like it and want to continue with the application, we need to select "yes, keep it."

As you can see, the new look has been applied.

The next step is to change the layout of our page, so from the ribbon, we select "layout," and there all the available templates for changing the layout of our page appear.

Once we have completed this, we now have the ability to insert the webparts of our choice into the new layout.

Here, we will insert a calendar as well as a forum to see their application within a page.

Finally, as you can see, the calendar appears in Monthly view, which to achieve in the new experience, we need to create a list and then change its master view.

To complete the changes, we select "save," and we have the final form of our new page.
